The mortgage reference rate is published by the Federal Housing Office. It is the basis for rent adjustments in Switzerland.
Each 0.25% drop in the rate allows a reduction of about 2.91% of the rent. For example, going from 1.50% to 1.25% justifies a 2.91% reduction.
Any tenant in Switzerland (Vaud, Geneva, Valais, Fribourg, Neuchâtel, Jura) can request a reduction if the current rate is lower than the rate at the last rent adjustment.
